NST to launch GSM service

Nepal Satellite Telecom (NST) has announced a soft launch of its new GSM SIM card service on Sept. 24 after receiving permission from the Nepal Telecom Authority to operate in Nepal.
NST is in the process of installing the required infrastructure like main core systems, base stations, sub-systems and solar systems.

Initially, the company will provide its services in 273 village development committees (VDCs) in the mid-western region and then expand to the rest of the country.

Mukti Shree Telecom (Nepal), Sewa Telecom (Bangladesh), Pakistan Mobile Telecommunicat-ion (Pakistan) and Air Bell Company (Cyprus) have invested in the NST. The company is initially investing US$ 25 million, states a press release of NST. Nabil Bank and Nepal Investment Bank have provided loans to the company.

The company has plans to launch CDMA and landline services besides an international gateway.
