Banks Autopsy

Published by on June 3, 2009

Financial Institutions; Commercial Banks, Development Banks & Finance Companies cover almost 90% market in Nepal Stock Exchange. So far bank shares have shown almost instant profit as soon as its IPO allotment. But in recent years, Banks & FIs have mushroomed like primary schools in city. Strangely, every bank has been showing astronomical profit rise in every quater in their´unaudited financial reports. Almost 80% of these banks never come in news which could support their astronomical profit rise every quater, but their new ATM installation, new branch lauches cover most of the economic section of the national dailies.
Addition of new branch, ATM would just increase an operational cost. Has anyone focused upon it ?

While investing in Bank shares you must consider various things; Financial Reports is just the pliminary step. Please check the deviation from Unaudited Reports (by the bank) and Audited reports published later by NRB ( http://www.nrb.org.np ).

Keep yourself updated with day to day economic news, share prices (national dailies or better http://www.nepseguide.com ). Keep track for activities of these banks. Dont get fooled by regular claims by these banks for the source of profit like Remintance, Car & Home loans.

Dont just read, but study major investment projects news, look who is financing and who is operating. Most of the investment project coupled with government finance might be in danger. Volatile government and outlawed mob nature of civilians has already caused heavy loss of public and private property in this country.

Most importantly, you must be active in Broker Station (here is the list of Brokers and their contact details) chit chats or have good friend in such place to get scoops.
